Mina
Mina Background
Mina is the main character of Battle Chef Brigade and controlled for the majority of the game campaign as she plays a central story role. Mina is a human chef with her goal to become the best chef in the land given her adventurous nature.
Mina Abilities
Mina wields fast swiping daggers and the elements of wind to be a quick and agile character. Without modifiers Mina has base statistics of 6 HP and 5 MP.
Your main attack swings these daggers swiftly in front of Mina in a melee attack although she has a diverse ability set for a number of situations:
- Dash (Special Move [A]) – My favourite Mina skill as this quick dash ability can be used to dodge an enemy attack or simply navigate the battle map faster. Item upgrades allow you to deal damage with Dash Strike.
- Stomp (Attack [W] + Down) – Another movement abilities that stomps enemies from above with an item allowing you to stun them and combo this into another monster.
- Dagger Throw (Magic [D]) – A fast firing dagger throw that can be enhanced with double throw, ice, fire or stun through items to serve as a simple and reliable attack throughout the campaign or other challenge modes.
- Whirlwind (Magic [D] + Up) – An ability that extends outward from Mina initially before staying in place. It provides an area of effect ability for multiple enemies and is particularly useful against stationary monsters like the dragon. A key item upgrade increases duration, damage and movement of the whirlwind.
- Feint (Magic [D] + Down) – This skill can function as a dodge when used as it repositions Nina behind the enemy and then causes significant damage.
Mina Strategy
Players will want to take advantage of Mina’s fast abilities to move quickly around the map and grow a stockpile of ingredients. This speed also makes Mina adept at acquiring higher tier materials in the depths of a map that can be used to great effective to improve your cooking potential.
For attack combos players should cycle between basic attacks, feint and your dagger throw to kill monsters quickly which all have strong base forms. This allows Mina to skip attack modifying items and focus on utility or mana boosting items instead with these limited item slots. Mina is not a durable character so players will have to rely heavily on dash dodging to move through the map as it is free to cast.
Thrash
Thrash Background
Thrash is the second playable character in Battle Chef Brigade and is an orc chef referred to as the benevolent berserker. Players will use Thrash for a number of battles while learning about his background as a husband, father and his role in his fiery matriarchal tribe.
Thrash Abilities
Thrash has a focus on close range abilities and wields a large sword with his orc strength to deliver deadly attacks. Thrash is notably slower than Mina that makes him vulnerable to monster attacks although has a larger health pool to compensate. Without modifiers Thrash has base statistics of 7 HP and 4 MP.
Thrash’s basic attack swings his large sword which can be enhanced with items to deal fire damage (Searing Blade) and deal increased damage wen enemies are knocked into each other (Wrecking Ball). Thrash’s abilities are:
- Counter attack (Special Move [A]) – Thrash prepares his blade to counter attack an enemy when hit. The limitation of this skill is it only stops some monster attacks that makes it difficult to utilise in practice.
- Throw (Attack [W] + Up) – Thrash is capable of throwing his enemies into the air which can be combined with his up attack to quickly disable monsters with minimal risk to himself.
- Pull Magic (Magic [D]) – Thrash lifts enemies in front of him that provides crowd control and can initiate your attack combos. This skill can be enhanced with a stun effect through items to improve the crowd control effectiveness.
- Flame Breath (Magic [D] + Up) – A short range fire breath that unleashes multiple fireballs and can produce significant damage on larger enemies that are hit by each fireball. Can be enhanced with items to target enemies and provide increased duration.
- Berserk (Magic [D] + Down) – The signature Thrash ability which requires you to consume three ingredients for increased damage and speed which is a great option for unwanted ingredients. Berserk can be improved with items to extend the duration and reset duration on consuming additional ingredients.
Thrash Strategy
Thrash relies heavily on his Berserk skill with the item upgrades which requires a good understanding of ingredients you need and the ones you don’t for consumption.
If you don’t have access to all the necessary items yet or want an alternative strategy in combat using Thrash’s powerful knock down abilities to disable them is highly effective. With the large health pool of Thrash players can also be aggressive and directly attack the larger enemies for their higher tier ingredients.
Ziggy
Ziggy Background
Introduced in the Battle Chef Brigade Deluxe release Ziggy is not playable in the core campaign and only available in additional game modes following a Kickstarter campaign stretch goal. Ziggy is an undead chef with a mysterious background that uses necromancer inspired abilities to summon ghouls.
Ziggy Abilities
Ziggy has a unique playstyle in comparison to the other playable characters of Battle Chef Brigade with summoning based attacks that use three different undead monsters to hunt for ingredients.
Ziggy is an agile character with a basic kick attack and has base statistics of 5 HP and 6 MP. His abilities are:
- Slide (Special Move [A]) – A powerful movement ability that allows Ziggy to slide until he reaches a wall or ledge and makes him immune to any damage. This can be upgraded to allow you to slide up hills and slow enemies.
- Bomb (Attack [W] + Left/Right) – Ziggy fires a random item which explodes for damage which provides a reliable long range attack although is difficult to use against fast moving enemies.
- Skelly (Magic [D]) – Summons a skeleton who will walk in a single direction and hit enemies along their path. Through combat items you can improve Skelly range and damage.
- Shooty (Magic [D] + Up) – A bat like creature that shoots homing balls of energy at enemies which is ideal for air enemies and can be improved to pull enemies in before exploding.
- Stabby (Magic [D] + Down) – A pitchfork creature that is easy to summon in mass that can jump attack and move in multiple directions for added flexibility compared to Skelly. A combat item can turn Stabby into an exploding Imp.
Ziggy Strategy
Ziggy has a difficult strategy due to his low health and weak direct attacks. Focusing on only 1 or 2 of his summons is best as Skelly and Stabby both need a combat item to maximise effectiveness while Shooty is powerful and versatile without extra combat items.
